Cybersecurity Systems & Architecture Engineer - Arlington, VA

STR performs advanced research and development using machine learning, program analysis, optimization, artificial intelligence, and formal methods for the cybersecurity and resiliency of cyber-physical systems. Targeting the hardest security challenges facing our national defense, STR is developing cutting-edge capabilities in cyber-physical systems modeling, vulnerability analysis, and attack detection and remediation.
We seek applicants that are interested in tackling the design and assessment of complex systems to identify the most critical areas to apply cyber resiliency mechanisms from the earliest phases of the design cycle. Experience using formal modeling languages (e.g. SysML) to specify a system architecture model and leverage model data to inform cyber analysis is desired. We are growing rapidly and hiring at all levels and across disciplines for new and exciting projects.

Software-centric systems engineers and analysts who are interested in developing and applying techniques to streamline the development of cyber resilient systems from specification to implementation and deployment are encouraged to apply.

Job Description:
  • Work in small research teams to develop innovative cyber resilient system designs and software prototypes
  • Apply a diverse set of advanced technologies, e.g., program analysis (static, dynamic, symbolic), formal methods, artificial intelligence, and machine learning, to solve the most difficult cybersecurity challenges
  • Span the stack or find a niche: from developing tools for the automatic instrumentation and modification of program binaries, to automation and planning technologies to coordinate large-scale cyber operations, STR cyber programs cover a broad territory.

Basic Qualifications:
  • BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field
  • Experience developing in C/C++ and x86 assembly
  • US Citizenship is required, must have the ability to obtain a security clearance

Desired Qualifications:
  • Understanding of operating system internals including memory/process/thread management
  • Understanding static/dynamic/symbolic analysis of programs
  • Understanding of intermediary representations (e.g. LLVM) and virtualization
  • Reverse engineering skills
  • Active security clearance

STR seeks to provide an outstanding work environment for its employees with excellent benefits and competitive compensation. Full-time employees enjoy 401(k), profit sharing, health and welfare benefits, subsidies for training and conference attendance to foster continued learning and development, and a casual yet technically challenging work environment.
