Cyber Security Researcher

Job Description:
 
STR performs advanced research and development using machine learning, program analysis, optimization, artificial intelligence, and formal methods for the cybersecurity and resiliency of cyber-physical systems.  Targeting the hardest security challenges facing our national defense, STR is developing cutting-edge capabilities in cyber-physical systems modeling, vulnerability analysis, and attack detection and remediation.  We are growing rapidly and hiring at all levels and across disciplines for new and exciting projects.  We seek software developers and researchers who love a challenge and are passionate about technology & security, from the bare metal to the cloud, and everywhere in between.
 
  • Work in small research teams to develop innovative software prototypes
  • Apply a diverse set of advanced technologies, e.g., program analysis (static, dynamic, symbolic), formal methods, artificial intelligence, and machine learning, to solve the most difficult cybersecurity challenges
  • Span the stack or find a niche: from developing tools for the automatic instrumentation and modification of program binaries, to automation and planning technologies to coordinate large-scale cyber operations, STR cyber programs cover a broad territory.
 
Basic Qualifications:
 
  • BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Cybersecurity or related field
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance (US Citizen)
 
Desired Qualifications (one or more of these areas):
 
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages: C/C++, Java, Python, X86 Assembly, MATLAB
  • Experience performing static/dynamic/symbolic program analysis
  • Machine learning or autonomy in the context of network operations and security
  • Intermediate representations (e.g. LLVM) and virtualization
  • Mathematical analysis and optimization
  • Development of domain specific languages
  • Operating system internals including memory/process/thread management
  • Computer architectures
  • System identification, modeling, and simulation
  • Experience with software and hardware emulation tools (e.g., QEMU, Unicorn, KVM, ModelSim), including: OS-level and application-level virtualization, virtual hardware device development, VM management and debugging, and VHDL/Verilog simulation
  • Linux development with kernel development and/or driver development
  • Artificial intelligence/planning technologies
  • Reverse engineering software using tools such as IDA, Binary Ninja, or Ghidra
  • Signal processing
  • Formal methods applied to security applications
  • Graph theory
  • Active security clearance
